I've been on the road for a few days visiting Belfast, Enniskillen and Dublin. I was asked by NICAS to go over and visit walls involved in delivering the scheme and to visit other walls interested in the scheme.
So 11 walls in 4 days and a few hundred miles of driving later and my impression of the climbing scene over there is that it's in a healthy state. New walls are planned or are opening up, like the new Awesome Walls in Dublin, and a Belfast born lad Dom Burns recently won the first round of the European Cup series for Youth bouldering, with more competitions throughout the winter. Well done to him!
This weekend I'm working with Coventry Mountaineering Club, providing some training to their members. Yesterday was spent working on improvised rescue skills on a crag whilst today it's navigation skills day in the hills. I'll be trying to get them lost so they can learn navigation skills and sort things out for themselves!
